At Santa Margarita, we strive to make nature and society around us better.
We are committed to do this through our dedication to sustainable and high-quality botanical products; recognizing our responsibility to the ecosystems where we source fresh materials; and doing our best to make small but concrete improvements in our people’s live.
01
Doing business in harmony with nature has been a basic principle from the beginning.
From its foundation Santa Margarita has demonstrated its vocation of doing business in harmony with nature, being one of the very first Chilean companies that produced and exported organic rosehip oil to Europe in the nineties.
Natural resources are the cornerstone of all our products. Therefore, from the beginning we have acknowledge the importance of sourcing considering the local biodiversity-that is the variety of species and ecosystems- and the local collectors to develop botanical products with a global reach.

On the journey to sustainability
We are at the first stage of the sustainability journey.
For us, to become more sustainable means tackling few major goals on a daily basis. Currently our sustainability goals are associated to the framework the social and environmental standards we work with (Organic, BioSuisse and Rainforest Alliance) recommend us. These standards give us a clear orientation for our own goals and initiatives, allowing us to adapt their content and make them more effective.

Sustainable initiatives supported by Santa Margarita
Supplier Sustainable Training
To have access to the best quality fresh raw material is a priority for at Santa Margarita. Therefore, we have been educating our suppliers, including the second generation, so they can implement a simple and effective measures that will make them contribute to be part of a transparent and more responsible supply chain.
The education is well documented and is accompanied by internal annual on-site audits to our suppliers.
Mapping the Collection Area
Biodiversity maintains ecosystems healthy. Therefore, biodiversity ensures that the plants present in the ecosystems will continue to be available.
With the objective of, on the one hand, ensuring the future life of native species present in the fields in which harvesting is carried out, and on the other hand, controlling the expansion of the rosehip plant, is that Santa Margarita, as a pilot project, has mapped in detail, some of the fields where wild plants are harvested.
Más Palmas para Chile
To preserve resources so that they will still be around for the next generations is one of our sustainable practices. At the same time, we want to support local projects where local people can be benefited.
The purpose of the project “Más Palmas para Chile” is to plant a native forest with Chilean palms, in the city where our facilities are located: Los Angeles, VIII Region. This is a private project that invite people who act as godmothers or godparents to invest resources so a Chilean palm can be planted and cared for. Chilean plants are in extinction so through the support of the project it is possible to preserve this species.
At Santa Margarita we give each of our permanent collaborators the opportunity to sponsor a palm and visits are organized to help in the care of the palm trees.
Fundación Reforestemos
Forest are home to more than 80% of all terrestrial species of animals, insects and plants. Therefore, by planting trees we help to protect the environment. For this, we at Santa Margarita, work with Fundación Reforestemos which is a non -profit reforestation initiative that mobilizes public and private support to recover the environmental value of Chile’s ecosystems. Santa Margarita collaborates, since year 2020, with Fundación Reforestemos by planting 1 native tree for each container of botanical product exported.
The native species and areas for plantation are selected by Santa Margarita among a pool of alternatives available

Sustainable vision
We want to build trust through transparency. Transparency through all the supply chain: from the source to the dispatch. Transparency in the real, small achievements we have done.
